First let me say that I have built 5 black power rifles and 3 pistols from kits. I have some experience in building these. Be prepared for a lot of work if you want this to come out looking close to an original 1842. The wood stock is not bad and only requires some final fitting. Be prepare to do a lot of sanding but that is to be expected. Barrel was in good shape except for the sight end (last 6 inch’s) where they seemed to just stop doing the finish from factory. Biggest problem is that the trigger guard, barrel bands and barrel cap are all rough cast medal. They had lots of casting ridges and imperfections. They require a lot of medal work and I could never get out all the imperfections without harming the pieces(taking to much medal off). For the price you pay I expected better quality. Also note that no real instructions come with the kit. Not even a picture of the final look. The instructions are generic and general and designed for any kit that you would build.
