I wanted a better stock for my savage that was proving to be more accurate than most would expect. I “upgraded” to this and was disappointed in the details. The rail for the bipod mount doesn’t have anything to stop the swivel stud adapter from sliding your bipod right out from underneath you. The side mounted swivel studs are loose and noisy, this is only noticed when your truly sneaking around, but still annoying. And finally my magazine well was not deep enough and I ended up grinding up an “upgrading” stock. Overall I think it’s a bunch of good ideas poorly finished.

Overall fit and finish is very good on this stock. The aluminum rail makes the stock very stiff overall and this is a hefty piece compared to the original. Some may want a lighter option, but for my taste the Choate is perfect. The palm swell at the grip is quite large but works well for me. The only negative that I’ve noticed were that my bolt would not release after installing the action in the new stock. 5 minutes of inletting under the top release lever and problem fixed. Ascetically, this may not be the stock for you if you are running a sporter weight barrel as there is a ‘generous’ amount of barrel inlet for even a bull profile.
