Everything 10/22 I have ever seen was drop in.
I worked as a part time gunsmith and full time locksmith for over 20 years.
Slag (excess plastic from molding process) must be removed to fit the rifle.
The slag is where the front of the receiver must slide down, I found a emery nail file to be the perfect tool to remove the Slag.
Even with the slag removed the stock is extremely tight.
Once in position I used a Mallet to lower the action into the stock.
No 10/22 stock should require a mallet to install.
I could not fit the rifle Into the stock without using force.
The instructions say it will be tight to install and the stock will conform to the receiver after being installed for a few weeks.
Once installed the rifle feels great in the stock.
I started shooting with my first rifle in 1983 and it was a 10/22.
The rifle I fitted was a Tactical Solutions X-Ring 10/22, it has the same external dimensions and is interchangeable with any Ruger parts.

The Stock looks and feels great! I will have to say it was a little difficult to insert my 10/22 into the stock. The instructions stated that it would be tight at first and then the stock will conform to the shape of the 10/22. The instructions were right and this stock has improved accuracy and now my 10/22 is a tack driver at 100 yards.
