i have this vltor upper and vltor lower(stock) on my M1A Socom 16 (16″ barrel, shortest this rifle comes with), and everything fits great and was easy to install (see instruction vids on youtube).
am not a gunsmith so removing the original stripper part was a little bit of a pain but was doable, be ready to do a little sanding or filing with something fine-grit if necessary to slide new part into the dovetail, and a little oil/lube. everything else was easy enough for a child to handle.
once installed it’s solid. i never found any other scope mount for the M1A i felt confident with, i tried a few.
other picatinny chassis’ look like good products but add to the bulk, including the front-end handhold area, those lose the “right-size” grip from the orginal setup; the vltor stock is simply an original stock with back end chopped off so it’s exactly what i wanted in terms of front handhold. although oddly they didn’t add the checkering of the original, not sure why.

Caveat to recommendation: Maybe mine was bad and the next one is great. Used for long and short range target shooting. First pass was not so good. Unit was bent vertically and horizontally and I had to return it to VLTOR to get them to straighten it out. VLTOR was very nice and cool about the whole thing but it was a hassle to dismantle the weapon and be without. Once they did the work the item went back on the gun and things are “OK”. Straight vertically now but still bent horizontally a bit. I have to dial in correction to be on target. If I have more problems I’ll ask for a refund.
