Let me start with the shooting part. My rifle shoots consistent 2″ groups from the bench at 50 yards with patched round balls and 90 grains (volumetric equivalent) Pyrodex RS. The barrels on these rifles are pretty good quality. The bore is polished pretty nice and loading is smooth and consistent. I don’t know how many balls I can put through it without swabbing the bore. The other day, I shot 95 rounds through it and never swabbed it once. Loading never became difficult and accuracy never suffered. I was using .490 round balls and .010″ patches lubed with Crisco. Now, let’s talk about the kit. Traditions has a tendency to over fit some of the parts. For example, if I had installed the nose cap, it would have had an uneven gap between the cap and wood. I tossed the nose cap in the trash, installed the screws into the two tapped holes on the bottom side of the muzzle with red Loctite and filed them down. No nose cap on my rifle. the kit is why more difficult to put together then it should be. almost all parts need fitting, even the metal parts. the kit goes from a fun project to a pile of frustration very quickly.
