I bought this gun for my son to use for hunting the west. I chose 7mm08 because he would be able to use it for elk, as well as mule deer. The compact rifle fits kids so much better than a full size rifle, and I find the lower weight of a compact, helps steady the rifle and thus, improves accuracy. My son still has some difficulty holding the rifle when shooting offhand, but he’s only 12 years old. As he gets older and stronger, this will not be an issue. I could have bought something in a lower price range, but I foresee this as something he hopefully passes down to his kids. Winchester M70s are something you pass down because of quality. Many other, less expensive brands are not, in my opinion.
