I own several .357/.38 revolvers and love them all, but the 5 inch barreled Performance Center Model 627 is absolutely my favorite range revolver. It has an excellent trigger, perfect weight, and that 5 inch barrel, lead by a bright gold bead front sight seems just right for me. It can run with or without moon clips. And, AND! instead of six, or even just seven shots, the Model 627 gives 8 rounds to the revolver aficionado. As a fan of moon clips I find this an excellent design feature. Not having to clip every round allows for both fast reload practice, but also allows for less time consuming prep by being able to run without the moon clips.
I regularly make 100 yard shots on steel with this revolver, so it could potentially be a decent choice for handgun hunting.
In addition to being a fun range gun, and potentially a hunting revolver, I think, properly staged, it could be an excellent home defense revolver. As N-frame, even stout .357 cartridges are comfortable to shoot for any shooter (especial…
