Groove diameter of my Pietta .36 Remington is .375 and throats of the Howell cylinder are .374. Factory .38 Special target wadcutter ammunition is accurate, shooting 2-1/2 inch groups at 25 yards, but point of impact was 6 inches low. Reducing height of front sight until it measured exactly one inch from the bottom flat of the octagon barrel to the top of the front sight corrected this. Velocity is 740 fps from ther 6-1/2 inch barrel and fired bullets recovered in water jugs are engraved their full length to the groove diameter of the barrel. Ordinary .38 Special 158-grain LRN range ammo shot groups more than double that produced by the wadcutters and holes in paper targets showed signs of the bullets tipping.
