See the YouTube video from Boyds before you start the finishing project. The composite wood only requires sanding and TruOil or other topcoat – no wood cutting is needed. I’ve done two and both looked different – the stock is composite; wood/resin/wood/resin/wood… The final look will vary from piece to piece. I used TruOil on the first and Boiled Linseed Oil/ Shellack/Varnish on the 2nd. Both looked quite different…if I get a 3rd I’ll go for a darker look. Fun project that gave me a great looking 10 22 stock. (I guess you could paint it a solid color, but where’s the fun in that?)

Its a nice stock over all, I think I just got one with a few bad pieces of lam in the wrong spots. Had to sand out quite a bit of burl, so much on one side of the butt that its a noticably different shape now. Ive been doing all the sanding by hand and let me tell you, Popeye’s can of spinich has nothing on this gun stock…
